Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a very gentle, subtle work that can be performed anywhere on the body. It is not massage. It is a deep listening by the practitioner to the different membranes, tissues, fluids and bones of the body. As our bodies are made for movement in the world, so are the internal aspects of our bodies made to have their own intrinsic movement, and even have dialogue with one another. The whole of our physical being is in relationship, all parts communicating. And, of course, the whole of our being- mind, body, emotions, spirit - is also communicating
The listening I do during CST is with my hands and also with my intuitive sense. The magic of CST is that as my hands listen and follow the subtle motions of a person’s tissues, their body is able to register any congestion or dis- ease that is present and begin to shift and soften towards a higher state of health. It is energetic, yes. It is also grounded in anatomy and actual observable changes in range of motion, tissue quality and decreased levels of discomfort.
This work also has a dialogue component. Though not always necessary, together the physical work and dialoguing can be a profound way for a person to deepen their own awareness of how life experience and the physical and emotional are connected. This awareness can facilitate release of old trauma still present in the body, shift old patterns, physical, psychological & emotional - sometimes still present from birth or childhood, and often leads to a true “aha” moment that allows a profound recognition of what has been held and a sense of the potential for letting go.
I have witnessed adult clients release a hip locked from birth, stop grinding patterns they've had for 30 years with the awareness of the connected emotions, soften scar tissue post surgery, release constant pain and emotion years after experiencing a difficult childbirth, regain short term memory after several years of challenges from a severe car accident and coma… I’ve also observed babies release birth trauma and soften tensions held from birth that are interfering with their ability to latch and breastfeed. All this and more from this gentle, yet profound modality.
After almost 20 years, it still continues to amaze me - I live and work in wonder at the magic of our bodies.
